Questions:

The Face on the Milk Carton

Do the following tasks and publish them on your blog.

  1. Find information about the author.

Caroline B. Cooney was born in 1947 in Greenwich. Now she lives in America. She writes fantasy and young-adult books.

  1. Write a short summary of the plot.

It is about a teenager-girl, her name is Janie, and she found out that her parents are not her real parents.

  1. Characterize Janie, Reeve, Sarah- Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs Johnson(development throughout the plot)
  2. Janie: She is fifteen years old and she makes her driving license. She doesn't like her name so that she added a “y” to Jane and a “t” and a “e” to Johnson. Now she is Jayne Johnstone. She had never had a boyfriend. She has red hair.

Reeve: He attend the same school as Janie and he is Janie's neighbour. He has three older sisters.

Sarah-Charlotte : She is Janie's best friend. She hate it when someone call her Sarah. She has white-blond hair, which looks if she had cut it out of a magazine and pasted it onto her head. She is interested in having a boyfriend, who is tall and muscular, rich...

Mr.Johnson: He is Janie's father and she likes football. He is a football-trainer.

Mrs.Johnson: She is Janie's mother and she is worried about Janie all the time.

  1. Describe Janie’s relationship to her parents and explain how it changes as plot develops.

At the beginning Janie has a very good relationship to her parents, she loves their. Then she see herself on the milk carton cover and she is very confused. She doesn't know if she can trust her parents. She looks at old photos, but she can't find any photos of herself as a baby. She find a carton with photos of Hannah, she doesn't know this person. She asks her mother where Hannah is. Her mother tell her the story of Hannah and Janie is addled but she trust her parents again. At the end she talks to her parents and she loves them, although they aren't her real parents.

  1. Look at the book covers? Describe what you see. Which one do you like best?

I don't like the first one, because there are many things on the cover.

The second one is better. There is a milk carton and on the inside is a shade of a child.

On the third cover is a girl, I think this is Janie. In the background are two articles about a kidnapped and missing girl. I prefer this cover.

On the fourth and fifth cover is also an article of a missing girl.

  1. Do you think it is a good idea to put the photos of missing children on milk cartons? Why? Why not?

I think it is a good idea because people who miss someone can find them again and they can be happy. It is not a good idea when you a girl like Janie and you miss nobody. Nut your real parents miss you. This situation is complicated.

  1. After Janie has discovered the photo of the little girl on the milk carton she has flashbacks of her former life. What can she remember? Describe her daymares.

She remember the dress on the photo.

Daymares: She dream of Jennie Spring, the girl who was taken from a shopping center in New Jersey at age three.

  1. Why are her parents reluctant when she asks for her birth certificate? What does she need it for? Because they haven't her birth certificate.

She need it for her driver license.

  1. Do you think her parents should have told her the “truth”?

I always think the truth is the best. They should told her the truth at her tenth birthday. I think it is the right moment.

  1. Imagine you are Janie. What would you do in such a situation? How would you feel?

If I were Janie, I would feel confused and distrustful. I would check the internet. There I maybe could find some information about the kidnapping.

  1. Describe your favourite scene in detail.

In chapter 9 is the most exciting scene. I was really shocked when I read that Janie's parents are her grandparents. At this moment Janie's soul cry.

  1. At the end of the book Janie’s mother phones her “real” parents and hands the phone over to Janie. A woman’s voice answers “Hello”.

Write down the telephone conversation. “Hello?” said a woman's voice. Janie clung to her mother. She said, “Hi. It's your daughter. Me. Jennie.”

  1. Write your personal comment on the book.

I like this book, because I like this kind of books, but it is very difficult to read.

  1. Choose one character and write 5 diary entries by this person

Mrs. Johnson:

  1. I hope Hannah is fine. I really miss her. Should I tell Janie the truth?
  2. Does Janie know that she hasn't a birthday certificate? I can't always say that I deposit it at the bank. What should I do?
  3. Janie knows the story of Hannah. Fortunately she understand it and loves us still.
  4. I am worried about Janie. She isn't here and Reeve is also missing.
  5. Will Janie loves her real mum more than me? I will always support Janie. She is my daughter. I love her so much.

Chapter 18:
It is the last chapter and I am really happy that I finished to read the book. I like the eightteenth chapter.
At the end of this chapter Janie phoned her real mother and said that she is her daughter. Before she phoned her real mother she had talked to her parents and fortunately they told her the truth.
Chapter 15:
Reeve and Janie decided spontaneous to went to Vermont. There they talked about their problems and flirted and Janie kissed Reeve. After the kiss she felt heavier.
